4cancer2300.org.nz : Sponsor Don now

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Hi Guys,

Picton local, Donal Mcdonald (Swaggie) 71, having lost three friends to cancer has decided to do a solo and self-supporting bike ride around the South Island to raise money for the Marlborough and New Zealand Cancer Society. The idea being you sponsor him one cent per kilometre and he plans to do, wait for it 2300 km, hence this site domain : 4cancer2300.org.nz, so please support Don. $23 for all his effort, or more of course if you’d like to, he won’t mind!!

We will keep an eye on his blog, and hope to give you wee updates from time to time. You may have seen the Marlborough Express article which arrived on your doorsteps (if you live locally!) this morning. Not everyone would up for camping in October, let alone after cycling long distances, so rally around and go to: www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/4cancer2300/ to sponsor him.

We wish Don the best of luck, enjoyable riding and great camping spots.

Tika

28th October 2011 Nelson : Well Don’s nearly home now…. do check out his awesome blog. :)

Welcome Home Don! :)

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Hi guys,

Just a quick post to bring this to your attention, as I just had an email from Picton Resource and thought it was something that people might like to be involved in.

Department of Conservation is looking for volunteers to participate in the restoration of the theatre at Perano Whaling Station along with external framing and metal work.  There will be a hard core team of builders and space for up to 3 volunteers per week.  Work starts form September 13th and runs for approx 10 weeks

Travel, food and accommodation are supplied all you need to supply is a “can do attitude”  be reasonably fit and own a set of steel capped boots, sound like you follow it up with a phone call to Mark Nelson the programme manager at DoC  5200 3002.

Lend a hand make a big job a lot lighter for all and be proud to assist in preserving Marlborough’s history.

Ok…next blog will be Marlborough Shingle and Shake Roofing

Support the NZ Optimist World Team

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Hi guys,

A piece of paper I picked up at Le Cafe has been on my deck for a few days and it’s nipping my head, so without further ado.

Please support Taylor Burn from Picton, who has been selected to Represent New Zealand in Sailing at the Optimist World Championships in Langkawi, Malaysia in December 2010. Apart from a small donation from the New Zealand Yachting Trust the $8000 plus per sailor is self funded.

The NZ Optimist Worlds Team applied to the “Toyota Believe Campaign” and are one of three projects selected from hundreds to vie for $3000 towards the team fundraising to get to the event.

All they need you to do is Vote For them online. It’s free and only takes a minute.

Please go here and get voting before it closes at 5pm on 10th September 2010. A huge thank you from Taylor and the team for taking the time to make your vote count for them.

Thanks tika

Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids Fiji 2010

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Hi guys,

Today I just wanted to tell you about an awesome fund raising event, the Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids Fiji 2010. Two local folk, Cora and Stephan Kracke from Mercure Picton, formerly known locally as The Yacht Club will be  participating in a 4 day challenge, undertaking kayaking, swimming and running 28th-31st August later this year. They will be competing against other teams and testing their mental and physical endurance. Ultimately the task though is to raise a lot of money to help Cure Kids in the Fiji Islands.

Help Cora and Stefan from Mercure raise Funds for Cure Kids Fiji

Children are such a precious part of the Fijian culture and lifestyle, yet sadly, far too many lose their lives to basic illnesses that are both treatable and preventable in other parts of the world.

So this is all about raising money to fund medical treatment for the children of Fiji because together we can make a difference to save lives. PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TODAY, and spread the word locally.

We do need to mention that your donation is tax deductible in New Zealand but not in other countries.
It’s simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes straight to Cure Kids Fiji.

Vinaka vaka levu
Thank you for your support!

Awesome stuff Cora and Stefan – so if you see them about Picton training, give them a cheer!
